BOWLING Baptist opener Muhammad Zulfiqar Khan picked up two awards at the Timothy Taylor’s Craven League’s annual dinner and prize presentation, which was successfully staged at Keighley Golf Club.
Khan not only won the Hargreaves Batting Trophy for most league runs (613), but also the Derek Granger Memorial Trophy as the leading Division Two all-rounder.
His runs came at an average of 51.08, including a top score of 84, and he also took 39 wickets for 378 runs for an average of 9.69, including a best analysis of 5-21.
Eldwick & Gilstead’s Matthew Sharp lifted the Mewies Fielding Trophy for his 18 catches, including an incredible seven in one match, and one run out.
Remarkably, those figures would have put him equal third highest as a keeper - if he had been one.
Wilsden’s Oliver Houldsworth won the FS Trueman Ball as the leading under-21 bowler, taking 23 wickets for 301 runs for their second team in Division Three.
There was also an award for Noah Henry (Hepworth & Idle), who was joint winner of the Mark Batty Memorial Trophy with six points alongside Jack Middleton (Sutton) as the leading junior fielder.
Bowling Baptist also won the Margaret Coe Memorial Trophy as the league’s leading club, pipping Gargrave, while they were also re-presented with the Division Two trophy and the Wynn Cup runners-up trophy.
Baptist were promoted straightaway, having only won the Division Three title the season before.
Eldwick & Gilstead were re-presented with the Manorlands Plate, their first trophy since 1990 ending a drought that had taken on almost mythical status.
Trophies were presented on the night by Jane Jenkins, marketing director of Timothy Taylor’s Brewery, who have extended their sponsorship of the league until 2025.
The league was sponsored for many years by Mewies Solicitors, but Timothy Taylor’s took over that mantle ahead of the 2024 campaign.
