CITY claimed their first FA Cup win for four years to book their place in tomorrow night’s second-round draw.

T&A chief sports writer SIMON PARKER was at Valley Parade to see the comeback win over Aldershot and provides the match stats and his player ratings.

MAN OF THE MATCH

Calum Kavanagh has had a testing second season at Valley Parade so far and the striker’s frustration has been clear. But he got off the mark at last with a fine finish from the hardest chance he had in the game.

MOMENT OF THE MATCH

You could feel the explosion of relief for Kavanagh after he slammed the ball into the net to break his duck for the season.

MOAN OF THE MATCH

City should have been ahead before Aldershot struck the first blow. The strike trio looked ring-rusty in the first half as scoring chances went begging.

TACTICS

Graham Alexander made six changes for the FA Cup and handed Corry Evans his first City start.

Brad Halliday returned as the right-sided centre half in the back three with Evans partnering Richie Smallwood in the middle of a 3-4-3 set-up.

Vadaine Oliver was flanked by Calum Kavanagh and Olly Sanderson up front – although Kavanagh was moved into the number 10 role in the second half.
