ANDY Cook joked that he’s well aware of his place in the City goal-scoring hierarchy.

Cook’s double at Tranmere took him to nine in all competitions for the season and he heads the League Two charts with seven.

He’s now up to 79 goals in total for the Bantams – moving joint fifth in the all-time list with John Hallows, Joe Cooke and Sean McCarthy.

Next in his sights is fourth-placed Dean Windass who is currently eight ahead.

Cook said: "Yeah, I knew that! Of course I knew that.

"It's always nice to score goals. I've got a target in my head but I don't want to say what it is yet.

"Hopefully I reach that target at the end of the season but at the end of the day, it's not about me, it's about winning games and whoever scores, scores, it's not about me scoring goals.

“I'll just keep taking each game as it comes and if I keep moving up that top-scorer list, great. If I don't, and we keep winning games, that's all that matters.”

Cook, who turns 34 on Friday, is in that mood again when he seems to be scoring for fun.

He continues to feast on former clubs – that’s now five goals for City in three return visits to Prenton Park where he had two previous spells.

"I just wake up thinking it's another game and I want to score,” he added.

"It's just that I've got a good record against my former clubs since I've been at Bradford. I'm just happy to score against whoever.

"I just come into games wanting to play well and if I get a goal on the way, it's a bonus.

"The main thing is the team winning goals. If I'm scoring goals and the team's getting beaten …

“It's nice to climb charts and all that kind of thing but at the end of the day I want to be winning games. That's the main thing for me.”

Cook’s second goal came from a counter-attack launched by Richie Smallwood before Calum Kavanagh played him in.

His strike partner is still looking to get off the mark after a testing start to the season. But Cook is confident Kavanagh will come good.

“Dickie's put a great ball into him and the vision for him to put it in basically on a plate for me was unbelievable. He maybe could have gone himself but he put me in.

"He'll always work hard. He wants a goal and do you know what? If he keeps going like that, it will come.

"Every striker goes through it. Once he gets his first goal he'll be flying.”

Tranmere boss Nigel Adkins felt the result was hard to swallow after looking at the match stats.

The home side had more than twice the number of touches in the penalty area as City but defeat means they have now gone six games without a win.

Adkins admitted: “We had enough opportunities, some great crosses went in there. It’s fine margins sometimes.

“Look at the amount of touches we’ve had in their box, the amount of shots and possession – all of the things you want.

“We’ve got the ball into good areas and we had 10 shots in the box. It’s disappointing.

“The first goal came from the second phase of a corner. The ball is out and then it’s a shot from long range that has gone through people’s legs.

“The second was when we were in the ascendancy and everyone was looking at their goal.

“But we got done on Conor Jennings slipping on the ball and they break and Cooky’s punished us.”
