CITY are exactly where they should be after 10 games – according to the data.

Their 15-point tally at this stage of the season matches the expected total from specialist analysts StatsBomb.

Graham Alexander’s side have had to deal with a glut of injuries and the enforced formation change in recent weeks.

Having reverted to their favoured 3-5-2, they will be aiming to rebuild momentum starting at Tranmere tomorrow.

But the latest data figures for League Two make interesting reading.

While ninth-placed City, who are currently four points off the top, match the analytics, there are some big swings around them.

Gillingham are currently six points better off than the overall data would have predicted.

But Swindon and Accrington are six points down and Carlisle five below what the figures say they should be on.

Walsall figure highly in all the attacking categories with most goals, 19, from the most shots, 146.

City are fifth-best scorers with 14 – which is well above their expected goals (xG) of 11.36. Tomorrow’s hosts Tranmere have netted just four times, the lowest in the division.

City’s tally of 116 shots ranks them 10th and they are 14th for shots against on 108.

The 11 goals conceded is the sixth fewest but is more than their xG of 9.94.

Set-pieces remain an issue – as has been the case for a while.

City’s only goal from a “set-play” so far was Richie Smallwood’s penalty against Bromley. Their current xG is 2.67.

In comparison, Chesterfield and Grimsby have both scored six times from dead-ball situations.

Grimsby, though, have also conceded from six. City have let in three set-piece goals (from an xG of 1.81) – Tranmere are yet to be beaten once.

The Statsbomb figures show the Bantams are currently one of the strongest teams when it comes to getting the ball out wide and crossing.

They rank third for amount of crosses into the box (11.8 per game) and their success rate (34 per cent). The average in the division is 9.63 with 28 per cent coming off.

City are also third when it comes to “deep progressions”, which is defined as dribbles, passes and carries into the final third. Their tally of 447 is only behind MK Dons and Notts County.
