LIVERSEDGE FC has made the tough decision to part ways with club stalwart Jonathan Rimmington as head coach.

With Sedge languishing in 13th place in the Northern Premier League East Division, the club decided to move on from a man who had been in the manager’s hotseat for ten years.

Promotion still remains the goal for Liversedge, but with two wins, four losses and two draws from their opening eight league fixtures, the tough decision to cut ties with Rimmington was made on Tuesday.

Assistant boss Ryan Toulson has stepped up to take over as interim manager whilst the club ponders its next move.

A string of recent results in which Sedge lost three on the bounce in all competitions, prior to victory at Brighouse, proved to be the final straw for Rimmington.

In a statement released by the club, it read: “Following a string of recent results, the board at Liversedge FC has decided to part company with first team manager, Jonathan Rimmington, as announced on Saturday.

“The decision has not been taken lightly and has been made in the best interest of the club.”

Liversedge went on to thank the departed head coach following his long and memorable ten-year stint at the club.

The statement read: “We would like to thank Jonathan for his amazing dedication and commitment to the club over the last ten years which has seen some memorable and unforgettable moments at Clayborn.

“This wouldn’t have been achieved without the massive effort and time Jonathan has put in, along with all his family.

“We wish Rimmo every success in his future endeavours.”

Liversedge further added: “The club would like to thank everyone for their continued support throughout this transitional period.

“We now move forward ensuring Liversedge FC will be around for many more years to come. Let’s get behind the lads, and make sure that we push for promotion.”

Toulson, who formerly managed Eccleshill United in the NCEL Premier Division, was brought into the club by Rimmington last year as his assistant, and he’ll now have the chance to impress the club’s board during his interim basis.

Giving his thoughts on Rimmington’s departure, Toulson told the T&A: “It’s been a tough start to the season for the group and club, there’s no denying that, but it will be sad to see Rimmo go.

“He’s a hard-working guy, and a good guy, who brought me in last year and trusted me to come in as his assistant.

“So, seeing him leave is difficult but it’s about building from now and looking to push on with the group.

“The club will make the decisions going forward, and I’m sure everyone involved will get behind those decisions.”

Liversedge return to action today, and they’ll have the chance to build on last week's away victory in front of their home crowd when they take on Newton Aycliffe in a 3:00 pm kick-off.

A victory here would give everyone at the club a small uplift in mood.
