BINGLEY Congs, who climbed one place to fourth, won a remarkable game at home to Horsforth to end their Aire-Wharfe League Division Two campaign.

Despite 31 from keeper and skipper George Hicks, Congs were struggling mightily at 98-9 only for the last pair to more than double the total to 204.

New-ball bowlers Alex Bradbury (62) and Harry Greenhalgh (54 not out) transformed the innings in adding 106 together.

However, Horsforth were looking good at 145-2 and 189-5, only to lose their last five wickets for just 12 runs, as they fell agonisingly short on 201.

Greenhalgh (3-44) dismissed both main run-scorers Will Joyce (85) and Brad Moritz (44), who put on 130 for the third wicket, but the late collapse was caused by Mohammad Adil (2-38) and Stefan Mather (3-30).

Thackley also finished on a high, handing champions Menston only their third defeat of the campaign.

The home side batted first at Ainsbury Avenue, Jamie Ross (73) and Muhammad Shoaib (31) putting on 79 for the third wicket after they had been 25-2.

Leon Harber (41) then ensured that the innings didn’t fall away too much as they finished on 194.

Menston were 46-4 after tea but they recovered impressively to 144-5, only for that to become 164 all out as Shoaib took 4-23, Aftab Khan 3-54 and Craig Wiseman 2-55.

Rodley lost a close basement battle by 11 runs at Leeds Modernians, who finished 31 points above them, with both having to seek re-election.

In the Premier Division, Saltaire, who dropped one place to fourth, lost a rain-affected match at Waddilove Cup winners Horsforth Hall Park.

Saltaire made 297-7 after winning the toss, with opener Farhan Sheikh getting them off to a rapid start, as his 73 runs came off only 37 balls.

No.3 Sandeep Singh then took up the attack by making 55 off 48 deliveries, before Jibrael Malik (41) batted well with the tail to push the score up towards 300.

Hall Park were 232-6 when rain stopped play, winning the match on DLS.

Tong Park Esholt, who again saved themselves from relegation with a late-season run, were no match for visitors Burley on the final day.

The away side made 298-7 after winning the toss, as Shahid Mehmood took 2-38, Neil Cooper 2-37 and Noah Kershaw 2-67.

Esholt were given a fine start by Dan Groom (20) and captain Dave Hester (36), who put on 57 for the opening wicket.

However they fell away thereafter, Saqib Mir (26no) left high and dry as the hosts were dismissed for 160.

In Division One, Bolton Villas defeated visitors Harden by 59 runs, meaning the away side dropped to last, as Bardsey, also relegated, won at home to Guiseley on the final day.

Usman Ali (82) and Siraj Hussain (46) added 92 for Villas’ sixth wicket after they won the toss and chose to bat on Saturday.

They finished on 242, and Harden were then dismissed for 183, Adam Shabir taking 5-43 and Shezad Aslam 2-16.

Calverley, who had won their last four matches to climb to safety, could not make it five as they were easily second best at Ilkley, losing by eight wickets.
