CITY relished their change of formation to notch an emphatic EFL Trophy win at Mansfield.
T&A chief sports writer SIMON PARKER was at an echoey One Call Stadium and provides the match stats and his player ratings.
MAN OF THE MATCH
There were plenty of strong performances in white but Alex Pattison was the stand-out. He had a hand in all three goals and was at the heart of everything from his central midfield role.
MOMENT OF THE MATCH
City came charging out the blocks and were rewarded with a goal after three minutes – and one that’s been a long time coming for scorer Vadaine Oliver as he buried Pattison’s cross.
MOAN OF THE MATCH
There was little to find fault with City’s performance, although maybe they could have scored more but for the efforts of veteran home keeper Scott Flinders.
TACTICS
City made eight changes from the side that started at Walsall. Only Richie Smallwood, Cheick Diabate and Olly Sanderson stayed in.
The big talking point was the switch to a 4-4-2 – through necessity with Diabate and Jack Shepherd the only fit centre-halves currently.
Vadaine Oliver got a start up front alongside Sanderson with Calum Kavanagh returning on the bench. Tyler Smith missed out completely.
