MEMBERS of the UK’s Largest Muslim Youth group, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association (AMYA), are gearing up for a thrilling sporting event this bank holiday weekend.
The National AMYA Cricket Tournament 2024 is set to take place across the Bradford district today and tomorrow.
18 teams consisting of over 350 players are expected to attend, representing their respective regions from across the country by showcasing their cricketing prowess over the two-day tournament.
The matches will unfold across ten separate cricket pitches around Yorkshire, ensuring a seamless experience for both players and spectators. Amir Virk, Regional president of AMYA, explained: “The teachings of Islam encourage physical fitness and teamwork, but our aims for this tournament go beyond just celebrating the talent of our youth.
"Relying on the unifying power of sport, we hope this event serves as a platform to bring the community together, foster friendships and promote unity.”
Paul Cummins, Yorkshire Cricket’s director of recreational cricket commented: “A massive thank you to the organising committee and over 40 volunteers who have helped bring this weekend to life. Fingers crossed we have some great weather and great cricket played!”
AMYA UK extends a warm invitation to cricket enthusiasts, families, and the broader community to join in the celebrations and come to spectate the Final, which will take place on Monday 26th August, at Esholt Cricket Ground.
