LUCKLESS Oxenhope tennis talent Francesca Jones saw her hopes of making the US Open main draw ended by yet another injury.
She was losing 6-4 4-1 to Japanese player Ena Shibahara in the second qualifying round when she was forced to retire in agony.
It brought back painful memories from earlier in the summer, when her progress in Wimbledon qualifying was also ruined by an injury.
The 23-year-old had worked so hard to get through to face Shibahara at Flushing Meadows, winning her opening qualifier 6-1 2-6 7-6 (10-6) against Spain’s Rebeka Masarova.
Masarova went into the game 90 places above Jones the world rankings, but the Brit defied the odds to win an epic encounter that went right to the wire.
