A FORMER Bradford Bulls player who has since made the move to US wrestling has won his first title.
Luke Menzies, otherwise known as WWE superstar Ridge Holland, won the NXT Tag Team Championship on Tuesday evening’s episode of NXT.
Teaming with Andre Chase – his stablemate in a US College-themed faction Chase U - Holland beat champions Axion and Nathan Frazer in the main event.
Holland was born in Liversedge and used to play for Bradford Bulls before training to become a sports entertainer.
It was Holland who made the pinfall on Axiom to win the titles for his teams.
Interviewed after the bout, he said he “couldn’t put into words” his feelings after the victory.
He added: “Nobody gave us a second chance – the amount of BS that I’ve been through, that we’ve been through, to get to this point.”
He was likely referring to the backlash he received after former WWE champion Big E suffered a serious injury in a match against Holland, an injury he has yet to fully recover from.
Since then Holland has moved to the NXT brand in a bid to seek “redemption.”
Returning backstage after the match, the team were congratulated by WWE legend Shawn Michaels.
