BRADFORD based gym, Aztec Boxing Club ABC held its first presentation evening recently.

It was a fabulous afternoon for all the team as they came together to celebrate the extraordinary efforts of those who went above and beyond in amateur boxing for the 23/24 season.

Aztec ABC, which is based on Fairbank Rd, has served young people across Bradford Since 2022.

Founder Amir Hussain along with coach Ali, who was raised in Bradford, expressed how boxing taught him everything he knows in regard to discipline and respect.

Having won multiple fights as an amateur fighter representing the Bradford Police Boys, Hussain and Coach Ali opened Aztec in June 2022 with the vision of imparting years of experience and knowledge to help other young people achieve goals through boxing.

Hussain said: “We have managed to tackle a large crime percentage in the surrounding areas by having the boxing club.

“We have many young people off the streets working hard in the gym instead of hanging about, or not having anything to do in the evenings.

“Aztec has helped many individuals to better themselves from home or school issues.

“Boxing can be a powerful tool to create social cohesion. It was important to me when opening Aztec that, as well as producing champions in the boxing ring, we use boxing to champion young people outside of the ring to give them the skills to build resilience in life.”

He added: “Our club doors are open to everyone regardless of what level you are; we have many young people with disabilities.

“Aztec Boxing annual awards was a great afternoon of dedicating our celebrations towards the outstanding achievements and contributions of boxers, coaches, officials and volunteers.

“It’s been anther very positive year with the club, and long may it continue.”
