YORKSHIRE’S hopes of qualifying for the knockout stages of the Metro Bank One-Day Cup quarter-finals took a hit yesterday, as they were thumped by eight wickets at Scarborough by Leicestershire.
The hosts batted first in this Group B clash, and were in dire straits early on, as they lost regular wickets and were barely going at three an over when they brought up their hundred.
When Will Luxton was dismissed for 25, the top score at the time, Yorkshire were stuck on 118-6 with 15 overs and one ball remaining.
Tom Scriven and Ian Holland were excellent in that top-order destruction, taking 2-35 and 2-39 from their respective 10-over allocations.
But Tuesday’s batting hero in the win over Essex, Dom Bess, came in at the fall of the sixth wicket and joined Matthew Revis, with the pair batting superbly in tandem.
They added 112 together, with Bess making 60 before being dismissed from the penultimate ball and Revis ending up on 55 not out.
But Leicestershire did not have to chase Yorkshire’s total of 236-7, as a prolonged spell of rain between innings meant their DLS equation was 150 from 22 overs instead.
Able to take a more attacking approach with less overs to lose wickets in, Leicestershire stormed to victory with 14 balls to spare, opener Holland scoring 42 and captain Lewis Hill blasting 71 not out.
George Hill and Dom Leech took a wicket apiece but Yorkshire were always chasing the game when Leicestershire batted.
Yorkshire will almost certain have to beat Warwickshire and Glamorgan, the current top two in Group B, in their final two games now if they are to have a chance of reaching the knockout stages.
