TYREIK Wright is raring to get going after the hardest pre-season of his career.

Wright made the permanent switch to Valley Parade this summer following two previous loan spells.

And he hopes the hard graft put in during the build-up will ensure City are well prepared for the kick-off to the new campaign at much-fancied MK Dons this weekend.

“It’s been the toughest pre-season I’ve had for sure,” said Wright. “But it’s all for a good cause to get us ready for the new season ahead.

“It’s going to be a long one full of ups and downs. It’s getting us mentally and physically prepared.

“Last season was a massive disappointment. Obviously, you look back and think if we got a result here or there, we’d have got in the play-offs.

“But that’s gone now. You’ve got to focus on the game ahead.

“We got a run of games towards the end when I felt we clicked a lot better than the first time I came in.

“But we’ve had a whole preseason together and we’ll be looking to carry that on into the new one.

“Everyone gets along and sets each other standards. If people aren’t on it, others will let them know - when something needs to be said, it will be.”

Wright signed a two-year deal at the third of his third stint with City.

He insists it feels no different to when he was on loan – but the role he can expect to play has changed with Graham Alexander seeing him primarily at left wing-back.

Wright added: “I had a conversation with the gaffer before the end of last season and he said that’s where he wanted me to play.

“I’m not fussed. I’m happy enough once I’m playing and not bothered about where it is on the pitch.

“I feel I’m a versatile player and can play in any position really – except goalkeeper and centre back.

“I got to grips with the position towards the end of last season, especially the defending. I feel comfortable with it now and I’m just ready to go.

“I’ve still got a lot of things to work on and I’ll do anything I need to do to improve and take my game to the next level.

“It was a no-brainer for me to come back here and play under the gaffer. The lads have been brilliant since the first day I stepped through the door.

“Every game is going to be a big one for us. We’ve set goals for the season and we want to achieve them.

“We can’t wait to get going. Every week will be massive and we’re going to need the fans behind us.”
