YORKSHIRE cannot seem to find any consistency in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup this season, as they backed up another win with a loss yesterday.

They were superb in beating a strong Surrey side by 25 runs on DLS at The Oval in their Group B opener, but followed that with a dreadful display in the East Midlands, losing to Nottinghamshire by 83 runs at Sookholme.

Yet things were looking up when they downed Surrey at Clifton Park in York on Wednesday, claiming a 49-run victory.

But back at the same venue yesterday, they flopped badly, as visiting Gloucestershire claimed a 36-run victory.

There are four group games left for Yorkshire to try and make the knockout stages.

Gloucestershire elected to bat first and made a superb start, racing to 172-2 with nearly 15 overs left.

Opener Miles Hammond (54) made a composed half-century before being bowled by Dan Moriarty, but the real star of the visiting side’s top order was Oliver Price (98) who fell agonisingly short of his hundred when he was castled by George Hill.

Price had watched on despairingly at the other end as Gloucestershire collapsed lost four wickets for 19 runs to slide to 191-6, but Tom Smith (27) helped recover the innings, and the away team finished on 251-9 from their 50 overs.

Hill and Moriarty joined opening bowlers Ben Cliff and Ben Coad in taking two wickets apiece, with the latter continuing his outstanding form with the ball by only conceding 27 runs from his 10 overs.

Fin Bean and Will Luxton were dismissed cheaply early on in the reply to leave Yorkshire floundering at 24-2, but Shan Masood and James Wharton got the hosts back on track.

Skipper Masood struck a fine 76, while his junior partner chipped in with 56, as the pair put on 113 in just 20 overs.

But when Masood was caught behind by James Bracey off Matt Taylor to make the score 137-3, Yorkshire suffered a middle order collapse akin to their visitors.

When Wharton was dismissed with the penultimate ball of the 35th over, the hosts had slumped to 163-6.

And though Matthew Revis battled to save his side with a hard-hitting 41 down the order, Yorkshire were eventually bowled out for 215.

Gloucestershire were indebted to their opening duo, as Taylor took 3-35 from his 10 overs, while Ajeet Singh Dale managed 2-39 from his full complement.
