YORKSHIRE are looking to bounce back today against Sussex in York, after the buzz of their opening day win over Surrey in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup quickly wore off on Sunday.
They lost by 83 runs against Nottinghamshire at Sookholme, a scenario that looked unlikely when the hosts were reduced to 60-5 batting first in the East Midlands.
Ben Coad was outstanding early on, bowling 10 interrupted overs to take incredible figures of 4-14.
But middle order batsman Lyndon James hit back with an excellent 76, and with Liam Patterson-White scoring 38 not out at a run-per-ball, Notts ended up posting a competitive 209 all out.
If Coad did all the hard yards early on, then spinner Dom Bess deserved credit for his efforts later in the innings, taking 3-26 from his seven overs.
Poor Coad then struck a quickfire 31 with the bat coming in at No.9, but that was the top score in Yorkshire’s dreadful reply of 126 all out.
It could have been even more humiliating, given Brett Hutton (6-38) completely decimated their batting card to leave them in tatters at 53-8.
Dom Leech (21) and Dan Moriarty (16no) then chipped in at 10 and 11 respectively to at least take the Yorkshire total towards something vaguely respectable.
Today marks Yorkshire’s first home game in Group B, as they take on a Sussex side who have lost both of their first two games.
Only the top three finishers in Group A and B will advance into the six-team knockout stages.
