YORKSHIRE enjoyed a good start to their Metro Bank One-Day Cup campaign yesterday, beating Surrey by 25 runs in a rain-affected Group B clash at The Oval.

The visitors began their innings at 11am, but saw it disrupted three times by rain.

In the end though, they managed an impressive 240-6 from 33 overs, opener Will Luxton leading the way with a superb 83, which he made from just 79 balls.

George Hill backed him up with 51 in the middle order, while Matthew Revis gave the innings real impetus at the end, as he blasted four sixes in the final over.

He ended up on 36 not out from only 15 balls, and when Yorkshire's total was adjusted for DLS, it meant Surrey were chasing 248 to win.

Cameron Steel was the only home bowler to take two wickets, but his six overs went for 58, and he was the man on the end of that late Revis onslaught.

Surrey knew it would be a tall order to chase that total down, as it required them to go at nearly eight runs per over.

Their task was made harder when former England international Dom Sibley was dismissed by Dom Leech in the second over, but fellow opener Ryan Patel made a bright 40, only to be bowled by Ben Coad.

When James Wharton took a magnificent boundary catch to remove another ex-England man in Rory Burns, Surrey were miles behind the clock on 73-4.

But Ben Foakes and Steel led a middle order recovery by scoring 40 and 37 respectively, putting on 68 for the fifth wicket.

Steel was then caught by Coad off Hill, and when Foakes was the sixth man out with the score on 163, Luxton pouching safely off the spin bowling of Dom Bess, the game was virtually over.

Josh Blake and Conor McKerr, the latter having spent much of the season on loan at Yorkshire, thrashed Surrey to some late respectability, taking their team up to the 200 mark.

But Revis dismissed Blake for 26 with just under three overs left to go, before Leech took two late wickets, including McKerr for 25, to wrap up victory for Yorkshire.

He finished with 3-48, while Hill claimed 3-41 on an excellent all-round day for him.

Yorkshire will look to make it two Group B wins from two when they visit Nottinghamshire on Sunday.
