KEIGHLEY ace Chris Melling has scooped the Ultimate Pool Masters title, after an enthralling 15-14 victory over the supremely-talented Declan Brennan in the final on Sunday night.

Both players were locked together at 7-7 after the first session, and they shared the next 14 frames too, meaning the 29th frame was the decider.

And it was Melling who won that, claiming his sixth Ultimate Pool title in the process, only four years since joining the organisation.

The Keighley potter coasted to a 13-3 victory in his opener against Stuart McPherson, before a far closer affair in the last 64.

He almost led his mid-game lead against Callum Singleton slip, but he held off his opponent to win 13-12.

Melling romped into a healthy lead over Greg Batten in the next round, and his rival’s late comeback was not enough.

That 13-10 victory put him into a last-16 tie with Josh Juhasz, which he superbly won 13-5.

The Keighley ace put out the brilliant Jack Whelan with a 14-10 success in the pair’s quarter-final, before taking down Craig Waddingham 14-9 in the last-four.

Brennan had defeated Melling’s good friend and fellow in-form Keighley native Arfan Dad 13-7 in the last-16, before thrashing Karl Sutton then squeezing past Shaun Chipperfield in a final-frame decider in the semis.

He came out on the right side of that encounter, but not when the same situation arose against Melling.
