ELDWICK & Gilstead are clinging on tenaciously to second place in Timothy Taylor’s Craven League Division One after being pushed all the way by bottom-of-the-table Wilsden at Grange Road.
The latter made a fine start after winning the toss, with keeper Majid Jahangir (40) putting on 52 with Mohammed Taha Iftikhar (12) before Chris Longley (27) added 39 for the sixth wicket with captain Christian Barlow (18).
Andrew Stephenson (3-27) and Jordan Bayliss (3-13), the fourth and fifth bowlers used, did best for E&G in Wilsden’s 153, and then the hosts made an equally fine start via Rob Unsworth (15), Deependra Rathore (24) and Matthew Sharp (27).
However, then came a shutter of wickets from 57-1 to 64-4 and it needed Dan Kilvington (19), skipper Arnie Raistrick (30) and Bayliss (27 not out) to help E&G to a three-wicket win with three balls to spare.
Chris Mitchell took 3-28 for Wilsden and Chris Longley 2-19.
Haworth Road Meths are up to fourth after handing defending champions Riddlesden their fourth defeat of the season at Baildon Bottom.
Meths won the toss and made 174-9 as opener Asad Rashid (39) put on 48 for the third wicket with Will Burgess (57) the latter then adding 35 for the fourth with Shahid Saleem (24).
Riddlesden were 6-3 and then 80-4 but collapsed to 96 all out as Mohammed Ibrahim (3-23), Saleem (3-28) and Mansha Khan (3-31) shared the wickets.
Hepworth & Idle slipped to fifth after losing by 29 runs at home to leaders Gargrave, who made 188 after being sent in, brothers Jonathan (3-38) and Alex Robinson (4-33) and Jonny Thompson (3-41) taking all the wickets.
Thompson then made 31 and Jamie Topham 30 as the Westfield Laners were dismissed for 159.
In Division Two, Bowling Baptists extended their lead over third-placed Airedale to 37 points after gaining maximum points at Ingrow.
The home side, depleted by a stag party, were dismissed for 110 after being sent in, with Muhammad Zulfiqar Khan (4-21) and Ishtiaq Raza (4-46) bowling superbly.
Zulfiqar Khan then also starred with the willow, making 84 not out as the visitors won by six wickets inside 21 overs.
Hepworth & Idle II, who are bottom of the table, lost by seven wickets at leaders Silsden, being dismissed for 136 after being sent in.
That total would have been much less were it not for a last-wicket stand of 51 between captain Martin McCulley (53no) and Finley Matthews (11).
Silsden’s solid reply took them to victory inside 19 overs, with all five batters reaching double figures.
In Division Three, Wilsden II climbed off the bottom by notching only their third win of the league season - at home to Bradford & Bingley III.
Sent in, Bingley could only score 131-8, despite Noel Flynn scoring 53, as Huw Pacey took 3-24 and Luke Stableford 3-36.
Wilsden were then given a great start by Glenn Stableford (30) and Tanveer Hussain (32) in a partnership of 63, and Muddasar Riaz (39no) then took the hosts to a six-wicket win, although it took them 43.1 overs.
Bingley Congs, who climbed one slot to seventh, scored a mammoth 270-7 at Sandy Lane against Keighley III after winning the toss, with Chris Hemsley (55) featuring in two big stands - 67 for the fourth with skipper Luka Atanaskovic (36) and 104 for the sixth with Tahir Arshad, whose 74 came off 32 balls and included nine fours and six sixes.
Keighley, who dropped to the bottom of the table, were dismissed for 121, with Andy Copping taking 4-13 and Jude Hawthorne 2-28.
In Division Four, Bowling Baptists II, who climbed to fourth, were handed a walkover by Ingrow II, who were stymied by that stag do.
