WEST Bowling have certainly had worse weekends of rugby league.

The Under-18s beat their Birkenshaw Blue Dogs counterparts, who were national finalists last month, 18-14 in a gripping Bradford Cup final at Odsal on Thursday night.

The West Bowling Academy side then claimed the NCL Alliance Cup with a thumping 38-4 victory over Heworth A in the showpiece on Saturday morning.

And only hours later, Bowling’s first team gave their hopes of avoiding relegation from the National Conference League Premier Division a huge shot in the arm.

They are now just four points off safety with six games left to play after a stunning 46-12 evisceration of fellow strugglers Egremont Rangers.

Winger Haydn Spence helped himself to a brace, while Elliott Cousins, Josh Lynam, Aidan Scully, Lewis Camden, Jack Milburn and Richard Lumb also crossed the whitewash.

Harry Williams added seven goals from his eight attempts to top up that total, with the stand off named as man of the match after his virtuoso display.

Drighlington boosted their Division Three promotion hopes with a superb 54-14 win over fellow high-flyers Hensingham.

Over in Division One of the Yorkshire Men’s League, rock-bottom Wibsey Warriors suffered at the hands of league leaders Siddal Academy on Saturday, losing 50-10.

Queensbury stay bottom of Division Two after their 42-6 home defeat against Castleford Panthers last Thursday.

Keighley Albion Academy are unlikely to catch runaway leaders Moortown Mambas in Division Six, but they boosted their chances of coming second with a superb 52-0 victory over Sharlston Rovers Academy, who had only two of their previous eight league games.
