BRADFORD teenager Siobhan Haley is a Junior European Boxing Championship medallist.
The 15-year-old, from Tyersal, won bronze in the female U57kg category, falling short at the penultimate hurdle after two excellent victories.
The tournament has just taken place in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Haley began it with a bang.
In the opening round, the Brit romped to a 5-0, unanimous decision, win over Greek opponent Tsakalelli Paraskevi.
But she found things much tougher in her quarter-final against Karolina Kollarova, edging out the powerful Slovakian on a 3-2 split decision.
That put her into a semi-final against Bella Zueva of Russia, with the winner set to take on Romania’s Mirela Cojocaru for the gold medal.
But Haley, who won the Bradford Sports Awards' Sportswoman of the Year prize back in May, had to settle for bronze in the end, as she lost to Zueva on a 4-1 split decision.
It was the Russian who ended up claiming gold, beating Cojocaru by unanimous decision in the final.
The Romanian at least had the consolation of claiming the silver medal, while the other defeated semi-finalist, Ireland’s Kayleigh Byrne, won bronze alongside Haley.
