THE Bradford Mutual Sunday School League chose a historic venue - Headingley Stadium no less - to launch their new coloured kit for all 20 of their member clubs.

The kit will be used for the Sir James Roberts Cup, the H Broadbent Trophy and the Rizues T20 Trophy.

The launch was attended by 60 people, including officials from the Yorkshire Cricket Board, as well as executive committee members from the Mutual League, plus club captains, players and representatives.

Speeches were made by, among others, league president Amir Majid, league vice-chairman Hafiz Azad and league chairman Dr Rizwan Hameed.

The latter highlighted the significance of the launch in both re-vitalising the league’s image and for fostering grassroots cricket in Bradford.

Dr Hameed also praised new clubs such as Takari, encouraging them all to stay engaged and pointing out the vital role that they have in the league’s future.

In addition, Mahboob Hussain, the YCB’s equality, diversity and inclusion manager, spoke about promoting Asian communities in cricket and expressed his excitement about the kit launch.

Paul Cummins, the YCB’s director of regional cricket, shared his memories of Headingley, announced a bursary for Mutual League clubs and pledged his continued support for the league.

Meanwhile, league secretary Hafiz Ur Rehman reflected on the league’s rich history (it started in 1896) and recent innovations, while also celebrating the league’s resilience, community spirit and dedication to excellence.

He also emphasised the league’s commitment to integrity, diversity and fair play, and thanked Dr Hameed for his generous continued sponsorship of the league’s T20 competition.

The kits were handed out by Hussain (first 10 kits) and Cummins (last 10 kits).
