A BRADFORD motorcycling ace is continuing to excel at this year's prestigious Isle of Man TT.

Dean Harrison followed up his podium in the Monster Energy Supersport Race 1 on Saturday with another third-place finish this time in the RST Superbike Race a day later.

Harrison (1:43:07) was only beaten by Peter Hickman (1:42:56) and Davey Todd (1:43:01) in that Sunday race.

To make things even better, this is only the 35-year-old's first season with his new team, Honda Racing UK, after several campaigns riding a Kawasaki.

Speaking to the Telegraph & Argus, he said: "It has been a really good week for us.

"It is a new bike and team this year. I have just been chipping away really.

"To get on the podium is nice especially because the competition is so huge.

"The podium is where you want to be. I was over the moon with that result."

At one point in the six-lap race, Harrison surprisingly found himself at the front of the pack after entering the pit lane in fourth.

He added: "There were a few issues in the pits with bikes starting and a visor change went wrong for somebody.

"All the things that could possibly go wrong did.

"I knew I had some good pace, it was just how fast everyone else was going to be."

Despite hitting speeds of 135mph, it was Hickman and Todd who gained the top spots.

Nevertheless, it has been a positive start to an intense fortnight for road racing specialist Harrison.

The previous day, the Bradfordian (1:11:50) was only denied by Michael Dunlop (1:11:19) and Todd (1:11:27).

Often labelled one of the most dangerous racing events in the world, Harrison has great pedigree when it comes to the Isle of Man TT - which originated way back in 1907.

He is a three-time TT winner with victories coming in the Lightweight (2014), Supersport (2018) and Senior (2019) races.

Harrison now hopes to convert those podium finishes into a win later this week.

"Hopefully it will be more of the same," he said.

"The season has been really good.

"Being a new team, everywhere we have gone we have hit personal bests at every track we have been to which means we are going in the right direction timewise.

He added: "Once the TT is out of the way, we are straight back to the British Superbike Championship (three out of the 11 race weekends have already been completed).

"The challenge is trying to get to the top of that as the season progresses."
