WEST Bowling are starting to click into gear in the National Conference League Premier Division, having won their second game in a row.
They began their league campaign with six straight defeats, but after squeezing past York Acorn 28-22 at Horsfall at the end of last month to make it seventh time lucky, they won again on Saturday.
Bowling welcomed Kells to BD6, and with Australia-bound Elliott Cousins putting in a man-of-the-match display, the hosts recorded a superb 26-14 victory.
The result moves John Williams’ side up to third-bottom, ahead of both Thatto Heath Crusaders and Lock Lane.
Winger Charlie Barrett crossed the whitewash twice for Bowling at the weekend, while Cousins, Dan Halmshaw and Logan Simpson also helped themselves to tries.
Stand-off Liam Coe added three goals to put the gloss on an impressive home win.
In Division One, Stanningley slipped to eighth after losing 36-18 at Leigh Miners Rangers, while Drighlington go down to third in Division Three after a poor 26-0 defeat at Hensingham.
Bradford Dudley Hill grabbed a fine win in the Yorkshire Men’s League Cup, going to Westgate Common, a division above them, and beating them 22-16 to reach the semi-finals.
Dudley Hill had eight players missing, and were facing a side intent on revenge, with the Bradford outfit knocking Westgate out of the British Amateur Rugby League Association National Cup earlier in the season.
Saturday's hosts even had semi-pro player Jamie Field in on dual registration from the Dewsbury Rams to bolster their pack.
The game swung both ways as both teams were trying to find dominance with Westgate leading at half-time.
But tries from exceptional centre Neil Wall, evergreen winger Jamie Brentley and second row forward Joe Newell, along with one goal from Dan Softley, saw Hill go into the break only trailing 16-14.
The second half was one of attrition in front of a partisan Westgate crowd, Hill's pack soaking up the pressure, with joint man of the match Ryan Dickinson leading the way.
But Brentley grabbed his second try of the game, which was converted, before a penalty from Softley's wrapped victory up for Dudley Hill, who kept Westgat scoreless after the interval.
Illingworth also won a cup game, sneaking through in the YML Trophy with a 24-22 victory over Seacroft Sharks.
In the NCL Alliance Cup, West Bowling Academy breezed into the next round by thumping Milford 32-0.
Finally, there was a Bradford derby at Wyke, as they hosted Odsal Sedbergh in a friendly.
The visitors produced an impressive performance on enemy territory, winning the game 44-12.
