OXENHOPE tennis talent Fran Jones is to make her debut for Great Britain in the prestigious Billie Jean King Cup this week.
Britain’s qualifying tie sees them visit France, with the game taking place at Le Chaudron in Le Portel.
The arena, which usually plays host to the ESSM Le Portel basketball team, has a capacity of 3,400 seats.
The French team have chosen to have an indoor clay court for the tie.
The hosts are the favourites, with three of their side currently in the top 50 of the women’s singles rankings.
Conversely, Britain only have Katie Boulter (world No.28) in there, with her team-mates this week being Harriet Dart (No.88), Heather Watson (No.144), Jones (No.277) and the injury-hit Emma Raducanu (No.302).
The tie, which takes place on Friday and Saturday, is set to consist of five matches, with four singles encounters and one doubles.
Jones is probably the least-heralded player of the British quintet, but the 23-year-old could be her country’s secret weapon.
She is coming in off the back of her first WTA 125 final on the dirt in Mexico and has won all six of her ITF titles on clay.
