The latest play off matches in the Bradford & District Sunday School Billiards League went entirely to form as, in the qualifiers, league champions Pudsey A beat Princeville D (4th) and Bradford Deaf Centre A (2nd) beat Deaf Centre B (3rd).
In the elimination play offs, Princeville B (5th) beat Princeville C (8th) while Pudsey B (6th) beat Princeville A (7th).
That means, in the quarter finals, Deaf Centre B play Pudsey B and Princeville D face Princeville B - with Pudsey A and Deaf Centre A awaiting the winners in the semi-finals.
The closest match of the night was Princeville B's narrow victory over Princeville C. The B team were off to a good start with two wins and therefore needed just one more point to go through.
The aggregate difference was 32 and the handicap difference between the last two players was 30, so everything was to play for.
The difference in scores never got far away from where it started, and with the bell about to sound for the end of the game, the league secretary needed to pocket a red to win the match.
Unfortunately he took just too long lining it up and was 'beaten by the bell' to leave the score at 2-2.
The league is this year experimenting with a 'shoot out ' format to decide drawn games in this competition and the league secretary - playing for the B team -scored with his first attempt.
The C teams Paul Devitt had got the same shot during the game, following a foul, but on this occasion the ball angled and went across the table without scoring, leaving Princeville B as the first team to win a match by this method.
