WEST Bowling ARLFC were dumped out of the Challenge Cup on Saturday, following a chaotic second round game away to Hammersmith Hills Hoists.
The Bradford side thumped the Londoners in the first round of the competition five years ago, the pair’s only previous meeting, but Hammersmith turned the tables over the weekend.
The Hoists are a much more potent outfit now than back in 2019, with the club hosting plenty of Antipodean talent in their squad.
But Bowling were left feeling aggrieved after an early red card left them on the back foot.
In a fiery game, which saw multiple fights break out among the two sets of players, the visitors had three players sent to the sin-bin, while a second red card meant they finished the game with 11 men.
And with a two-player disadvantage, John Williams’ side had little chance of claiming a famous away win.
Instead, Hammersmith, who did have one player yellow carded and one sent off after the final whistle, romped to a 32-10 victory, booking their place in tonight’s Challenge Cup third round draw.
They will be hoping for a marquee name, as this is where Betfred Championship sides like Bradford Bulls, Featherstone Rovers and Halifax Panthers enter the competition.
The draw for the third and fourth round takes place at 6:30pm tonight at Widnes Viking's DCBL Stadium.
