BRADFORD BULLDOGS head to Altrincham Aces today hoping to snap a six-game losing streak in NIHL North Two.
It follows a tough weekend which saw them take on two of the top three sides in the division, coming off second-best on each occasion.
A trip to Telford Tigers was always going to be a tough affair and so it proved, the Bulldogs going down 14-4 against the division’s only team still boasting a 100 per cent record.
On home ice the following day, they pushed Coventry NIHL Blaze close - like they did down in the West Midlands when they lost 4-3 in overtime earlier this month.
But ultimately, the Bulldogs were to be left disappointed again, going down 5-3.
“It was another tough weekend for us,” said Brown.
“Telford outplayed us for pretty much the full game on Saturday. They showed why they’re top of the league, and on that form, I don’t see anyone beating them if they’ve got a full team out.
“On Sunday we were once again our own worst enemies. We literally handed Coventry their first goal and then made a junior mistake for their second within 10 seconds which was all the lead Coventry needed.
“A freak redirect for the third and it was game over within 10 minutes.
“I felt we showed a little more character in the second and third but, again, we failed to convert on a 5-on- 3 chance and ultimately if you’re outshot 50 to 22 you don’t deserve to win the game.”
It was the second period in Telford where the Bulldogs saw the game slip away, trailing 2-0 at the end of the first, they saw the Tigers put six more past them in the second period, a feat they repeated in the third.
Connor Medley (2), Declan Kime and Alex Mitchell provided brief respite for the visitors when they got on the scoresheet.
On Sunday, three goals in just under two first period minutes left the Bulldogs with an uphill task against the Blaze.
Medley offered hope when he reduced the deficit with a drive to the net at 12.34, but the visitors were always one step ahead, going 4-1 up through Joel Gavigan at 24.08.
The in-form Medley kept Bradford in touch with his second of the game just before the halfway mark, but the hosts couldn’t find a way through again before Coventry made the points safe through a power play strike from Connor Wheeldon at 56.55.
Kime pounced on a rebound close in from with 65 seconds remaining, but that was close as the Bulldogs got.
