BRADFORD BULLDOGS will look to build on their opening weekend success when they host Nottingham Lions 2 today.
Andy Brown’s team came out on top against NIHL North Two newcomers Kingston Sharks on home ice two weeks ago when they triumphed 10-8.
Head coach Brown will be keen to pick up another two points, but he is hoping that can be achieved on the back of a stronger defensive display.
While the two points were more than welcome against their Yorkshire rivals, Brown would have preferred his players to have kept things much tighter in their own zone, in a game he feels should not have ended up being so close.
“It was obviously good to get off to a winning start and that is a theme I’d like to continue this weekend against Nottingham,” said Brown.
“They’ll come to ours hurting from a couple of tough defeats so they’ll be looking to bounce back which is something we have to guard against.
“But I believe we’re a different team this year, something which we showed at times during that opening game against Kingston.
“Our preparations have been affected slightly with us having to move training times because of an issue at the rink, but that shouldn’t detract us from making our barn a tough place for all teams to come into.”
Nottingham - who finished bottom of the regular season standings last year - arrive at Little Horton Lane having won one of their four games played so far.
An 8-7 win at Sheffield Titans was followed by a 9-3 defeat at home to Sutton Sting. A road trip to 2022-23 play-off champions Telford Tigers 2 produced a 4-2 defeat, while Sheffield were quick to exact revenge at the National Ice Centre on Sunday when they won 6-1.
