LIGHTCLIFFE have ended Woodlands’ bid for a hat-trick of Gordon Rigg Priestley Shield wins by defeating them in the quarter finals.
They triumphed by 11 runs after the holders finished on 128-7 when chasing a DLS target of 140 in 21 overs.
Cieran Garner made 70 not out but even that was not enough as George Leach (3-51) helped Lightcliffe secure their place in the semi-finals.
Michael Brooke (65) and Rhys Jowett (63) were backed up by Leach (38) as Lightcliffe made 226-4 in their full 40 overs. Jack Bleazard was the best Woodlands bowler with 3-33.
Yeadon, who will host this year’s final on September 10, eased into the last four with a 72-run win over Crossflatts. The Division Three side were set a target of 108 in 16 overs but only managed 35-2/
The highlight of the game was an unbeaten 106 from Yeadon’s opener Andrew Pickering. He struck 15 fours and was supported by his son Seth (38) and Asad Khan (47) as a total of 289-7 was posted.
Last season’s beaten finalists Townville secured their semi-final place with a six-wicket win at Cleckheaton. Jack Sykes (52), Niall Charles (37no) and Kieran Samuels (30) enabled them to reach their DLS target of 166 with four of their 32 overs to spare. Cleckheaton made 192-7 in their 40 overs with Craig Blackburn (83) and Elliot Hallas (35) leading the way.
The remaining tie between Jer Lane and New Farnley had to be abandoned before a result could be achieved. The home side made 231-9 with Arslaan Mahmood making 80 and Jawad Waheed (38) as Ed Denton (3-37) and Kai Watson (3-41) led the New Farnley bowling. The visitors were 33-1 after 6.3 overs when the rain washed out play.
