IT was a bad day for the teams battling to avoid relegation in the Premier Division with the bottom five all suffering defeats.
Nobody had a more miserable day than Bankfoot who were bowled out for just 35 by Charlie Parker (5-11) and Josh Dracup (5-22) as they crashed to an eight-wicket loss at home to Pudsey St Lawrence.
The result saw them drop into the bottom two with 74 points, but they do have a game in hand which could prove valuable.
Bankfoot are five points ahead of bottom team Hanging Heaton who went down to 72-run defeat against Townville who made 338-8 when they batted first.
Opener Jonny Booth (69) and Abdul Wahid (67) sett the tone with a stand of 131. Their good work enable Tom Brook to cut loose with 99 from 63 balls, an innings featuring eight sixes. Conor Harvey (40) also weighed in with quick runs as Muhammad Hafeez (3-84) proved to be the best of the visiting bowlers.
Rain meant Hanging Heaton were set a DLS target of 311 from 44 overs. Although they never threatened to achieve it, they did manage to pick up maximum batting points as they finished on 238-9. Overseas player Gagan Vats marked his debut with 57 and Hafeez chipped in with 39 not out as he shared an unbroken last wicket stand of 65 with Max Chappell. Spinners Harry Clewett (4-52) and Jack Hughes (4-74) led the way for Townville.
The victory saw Townville go second in the table above New Farnley on most wins. Both teams have 150 points, but New Farnley now have a game in hand after their match at Methley was postponed after part of the Little Church Lane ground was cordoned off by police who were investigating an incident which also required two other locations to be included in the exclusion zone.
Pudsey Congs will be frustrated after going down by two wickets against the close finish specialists Jer Lane. They had the visitors in trouble at 19-4 but a well-judged innings by Hishaam Khan (80no) was backed up by Sam Johnson (36) as the Congs score of 164, which included 51 from overseas player Yohan Mendis, was knocked off. Jamie Allen (3-40) and Sam Wisniewski (3-46) were the best of the bowlers. Cosmond Walters took 3-47 for Jer Lane who are now fourth in the table.
Farsley losing run was further extended as they went down by 61 runs against Woodlands after being bowled out for 198 when chasing a revised target of 260 in 41 overs. Off spinner Kez Ahmed continued his good form for the leaders with 5-64 while Muhammad Bilal Bagged 3-35. Ryan Cooper top scored with 39.
The highlight of the match was another fine century from Brad Schmulian. He struck a six and 15 fours while making an unbeaten 117 and was joined in a second wicket partnership of 100 by Tim Jackson (46) as the champions made 262-8, Scott Richardson chipping in with 31 and spinner Harry Sullivan claiming 4-57.
The Premier Division’s second centurion of the day as Bradford & Bingley’s Yorkshire opener Will Luxton. He made 117 not out, an innings containing 19 fours, as he helped his side to a total of 219 despite the brave efforts of spinner Archie Houghton (6-49) in their 78-run win at Ossett.
The home side were set a target of 232 in 40 overs to win the game after rain caused overs to be lost. Mattie Race made 51 but they were bowled out for 153 as young spinner Reece Cockshott (6-34) and Bradley Reeve (3-37) got to work.
Division One
Every week brings a change of leader. This time Cleckheaton have returned to the summit after beating Birstall by six wickets to capitalise on Batley suffering defeat by six wickets at Yeadon.
Young all-rounder Lachlan Doidge played a big part in Cleckheaton’s victory with 4-28 and 31 useful runs. James Stansfield (3-31) backed him up with the ball as Birstall were bowled out for 157, Waleed Akhtar (51), Doidge and skipper Richard Pyrah (35no) ensured their side had no alarms closing out the win.
Cleckheaton are four points ahead of Batley who found that their total of 170-7 was insufficient against their fourth-place opponents. Overseas player Nasir Totakhil made 62 and Umar Farooq an unbeaten 32 as they were kept in check by Istikhar Hussain (4-28).
Yeadon knocked off the runs for the loss of just four wickets with Sri Lankan Pasindu Thirimadura (48), Gulsheraz Ahmed (39no) and Gareth Lee (32) leading the way.
Undercliffe are third after returning to winnings ways with a 34-run triumph over Gomersal despite another fine performance from Australian Fergus McKenna.
He took 4-59 as Undercliffe posted a score of 250-8 which included 72 from opener Ollie Hardaker and made 70 as his side were bowled out for 216 chasing 253 in 41 overs. Lewis Edmond made 37.
Morley put a dent in East Bierley’s promotion hopes and boosted their own with another successful runs chase. This time they overhauled their opponents’ score of 261-5 to win by five wickets.
Opener Christian Silkstone got his side away to a fast start with a rapid 90 as he put on 138 for the first wicket with Jack Rowett (72). With James McNichol adding 38, Morley won with 19 balls to spare.
Opener Dwayne Heke (66) provided early runs for East Bierley while Danny Cross added 35 before Paul Martin (72) and Nisar Ahmad (59) increased the tempo with a fourth wicket stand of 116.
Sandal lifted themselves off the bottom with a two-wicket win over Carlton. Overseas player Kasun Madushanka smashed 94 and Leighton Shuttleworth scored 47 as they chased down the visitors’ score of 253 at Barnsley Road. Daniel Ford (76), Dan White (44) and Farrukh Alam (32) 2343 the main contributors to Carlton’s total, while Sam Noden was the best of the home bowlers with 3-48.
East Ardsley dropped to the bottom after suffering a 59-run defeat against fellow strugglers Baildon. Jonny Reynolds (88) and Will Kelly (39) helped the Jenny Lane side to 219-9 as Junaid Delair picked up 4-57.
East Ardsley were set a target of 217 in 44 overs but fell short and were bowled out for 157. Daniel McTiernan proved to be the top scorer with 31 as Stefan Mather (4-24) and Jamin Barron-Toop (3-53) secured victory for Baildon.
Division Two
Ties are relatively rare occurrences so to have two in the same division on the same day is quite something.
The matches between Hopton Mills and Keighley and Bowling Old Lane against Hunslet Nelson ended with the scores level.
Keighley’s veteran batsman Mark Gilliver became only the third player to pass 17,000 runs as he made 19 as his side chased a target of 238 in 39 overs. Scott Etherington (65), Simon Bailey (53) and Amjid Hussain (53) put them in sight of victory, but they had to settle for a tie when their last two batsmen were run out.
Mark Ashton (82), Will Cutt (58) and Ben Haigh (37no) were the main contributors to the Mills total of 253-7. Hussain took 3-45 for Keighley while Jabari Mills claimed 3-81 for their opponents.
Overseas player Hazrat Abbas impressed with 5-36 as Hunslet6 Nelson were dismissed for 177 in reply to Bowling Old Lane’s 177-8. Andy McIntosh (51) and Jack Scanlon (48) top scored for Nelson while Farhan Hussain (61) and Imran Malik (43) led the way for Old Lane. Will Stiff (3-33) and Matthew Varley (3-75) were the best of the Nelson bowlers.
Leaders Hartshead Moor were made to work hard for their 12-run win at Liversedge. After making 250 thanks to Chris Wynd (64), Craig Field (52) and Chris Swift (51), Liversedge responded with 238-7, Parvaise Khan making 53 and Bryson Nicholls (46). Moin Hussain took 4-72 for Hartshead Moor while Quadratullah Aziz went one better with 5-65 for Liversedge.
Heckmondwike & Carlinghow maintained their good recent form with an 88-run win over Northowram Fields. Iqbal Khan (85no) and Qamar Shahzad (50no) led the way as last year’s Division Three runners up made 227-6 before dismissing their rivals for 139. Ben Grech battled hard for 79 but lacked support as Khan (3-26) and Surender Singh (3-39) wrapped up victory.
A century from Rob Edmond helped Lightcliffe inflict a 103-run defeat on bottom team Buttershaw St Paul’s. Edmond hit two sixes plus 14 fours in his 103 and was backed up by Alex Stead (51) and Niall Lockley (53) in a total of 255-4. Abdul Rahman (38) and Mussawar Shah (31) proved to be the top scorers as St Paul’s were all out for 152 with Peter Dobson picking up 4-47.
Wrenthorpe occupy the other relegation position after a four-wicket defeat by Crossflatts. Muhammad Addas (42) and Mustafa Bhatti (35) helped Wrenthorpe to 2277 as Nadeem Safdar earned figures of 4-36. Azhar Mahmood (46), Tinashe Gomwe (43), Josh Brooksbank (41) and Safdar (35no) all played their part in the successful run chase.
Division Three
Scholes replaced Spen Victoria at the top after defeating them by 43 runs. Jamie Robson (58) and Josh Fell (40) top scored as they made 174 before bowling out their near neighbours for 131 with Gary Keywood (4-41) and Adam Greenwood (3-24) leading the way. Niall Phayer (4-8) and Mohammad Hussain (4-47) were the pick of the Spen bowlers.
Great Preston’s promotion challenge is gathering momentum as they scored 304-9 on their way to an emphatic 160-run win over Crossbank Methodists. James Conlon continued his good form with 67 while Oli Baron (56), Danny Harwood (36no) and Ethan Walker (36) made the bowlers toil. Rumman Virk picked up 3-54 and top scored with 36 as Crossbank were all out for 144. Sam Holmes (4-23) and Chris Aplin (4-54) sealed Great Preston’s triumph.
Captain Matty Waller led the way with 121 not out as Adwalton chased down an East Leeds score of 298-8 to record a five-wicket win. Waller struck one six and 18 fours to ensure his side’s innings had the right momentum. James Lord (45), Andrew Ingham (34) and James Colbourn (34) all played support roles. East Leeds had built their challenging total around the efforts of Kashif Rehman (92), Tanzeel Khan (69) and Tanuish Singhvi (32) as Tom Davidson (5-81) posed the main threat.
Aarya Jadhav (96) was backed up by Mohammed Waseem (44), Shoaib Iqbal (43) and Harris Butt (40) as Windhill & Daisy Hill made 291-7 in their 22-run win over Gildersome & Farnley Hill. Defeat was hard on Sayed Saleem who scored 110 in the away side’s 268 at Busy Lane. Iqbal was again the best of the home bowlers with 5-80.
Altofts were set on their way to a 151-run win over Brighouse by an opening stand of 120 between Andrew Wood (93) and Dominic Richardson (53). With South African Jacques Porter adding 63 a total of 275-4 was posted despite Mohammed Nadeem taking 3-51. Brighouse were dismissed for 124 with only Nakul Balasubramaniam (41) making an impression against Saif Tahir (4-25) and Porter (4-35).
