Jamie Spencer has put pen to paper on a new one-year deal with Bradford (Park Avenue) for the 2023/24 season.

The midfielder re-joined the club last year from Guiseley and playing 31 games in National League North, scoring twice, including a Goal of the Season nomination for his effort from the halfway line in a 2-2 draw against Scarborough Athletic last August.

Avenue were relegated on the final day, with Spencer’s absence for a third of the campaign undoubtedly one of the key reasons for that.

Right-footed, the 25-year-old looks set to play a massive part in Avenue’s attempts to gain immediate promotion from the Northern Premier League Premier Division, offering defensive solidity alongside his attacking threat.

A delighted Spencer told Avenue’s website: “When (manager) Mark (Bower), (assistant manager) Danny (Boshell) and (player/coach) Luca (Havern) outlined the plans for the season ahead, alongside the players who have also committed to the club, it was a project I wanted to be part of.

“While there are some very good teams in this league, I am confident we will be challenging and pushing to make an immediate return to the National League North.”

Assistant manager Boshell added: “We’re really pleased to get Spenner over the line.

“We have had to fight off interest from other clubs, where financially he would certainly have been better off, but this shows his commitment to both the club and us as a management team.

“That is no surprise to us, as we know he is a great character with a top personality.

“After a stop-start campaign last year with niggling injuries, the challenge for Spenner now is to get back to the levels we know he is capable of.

“If he can do that, he will have a big impact for us on the pitch this season.”
