Woodlands eased into the second round of the Royal London ECB National Club Championship with a six-wicket win over Sessay, but Pudsey St Lawrence bowed out after going down by three wickets at Barnard Castle.

Brad Schmulian (4-25) and Muhammad Bilal (3-37) helped the league champions bowl out their Yorkshire Premier League North opponents for 158. The innings contained seven lbws and Tom Sowerby (43 not out) was the only batsman to get going.

Woodlands got their reply off to a fast start with Tim Jackson making 62 before skipper Schmulian steered his side home with 36 not out.

Next for Woodlands is a second-round home clash with another Yorkshire Premier League North side Woodhouse Grange on Sunday, May 28.

St Lawrence battled hard away to North Yorkshire South Durham League opponents Barnard Castle but were made to pay for not putting enough runs on the board.

Luke Patel (50no) and Mark Robertshaw (38) played their part, but their colleagues were unable to back up their efforts as Saints were dismissed for 138.

Charlie Parker (3-30) and Ben Cliff (2-15) gave their side hope when they reduced Barnard Castle to 48-5 as they both bowled their eight over allocations straight off.

Former Yorkshire spinner Karl Carver (35) and Robert West (40) counter attacked against the change bowlers though to turn the chase on its head.

When skipper Chris Marsden belatedly entered the attack, he claimed the wickets of Carver and West but could not save his side from defeat.
