CLECKHEATON'S dreams of making it to Sixways for the Papa Johns Community Cup Finals Day are in peril.
They shot to the top of their Regional One Plate Pool Two group after thumping Sandbach 49-15 on April 1, but their progress was checked by York on Saturday.
The two sides met in North Yorkshire, with the hosts running out 24-7 winners.
Cleckheaton's only points came courtesy of Tom Hainsworth's try and Dale Breakwell's subsequent conversion.
Cleck are still ahead of York in the table, given the latter lost 24-13 in their first game to Stockport.
But Stockport won 37-7 at group whipping boys Sandbach on Saturday, and are favourites to reach the Regional Plate semi-finals at the end of the month.
Cleckheaton must win at Stockport in their final group game by 12 points or more to progress, while also claiming a try bonus point.
Even that might not be enough, with York able to pip both sides to top spot if they achieve a big enough win at Sandbach.
The semi-finals of the Regional One plate will take place between the four Pool winners on the weekend of April 29/30, before the final is held at Worcester's Sixways Stadium on Saturday, May 6.
Twickenham is hosting some of the other finals in the competition, as is Darlington's Mowden Park and Saracens' StoneX Stadium.
