KARL Boyes showed his class at the weekend, but just fell short when it mattered in the Ultimate Pool Pro Series.
Events three and four took place in Blackpool between Thursday and Sunday, with the Bradford native joined in the tournament by Keighley duo Arfan Dad and Chris Melling.
But while Dad was knocked out at the first hurdle in both, and Melling could only make the last-32 of each, Boyes went deep.
The 23rd seed opened up event three with a 7-3 win over Welshman Drew Hughes.
It was the same comprehensive scoreline in his next game, as he beat Northern Ireland's Gary Clarke.
Oly Bale lost 7-4 to Boyes in the last 16, before the Bradford veteran beat 10th-seed Neil Raybone 7-6 in a quarter-final thriller.
Boyes lost 7-3 to Tom Cousins in the last four, after being 3-1 up, with Cousins going on to win the tournament after thrashing Stevie Dempsey 8-2 in the final.
Those two made the final again in event four, with Cousins again coming out on top with an 8-1 win this time.
Boyes did well yet again, beating Ben Flack 7-4 in the last-64.
He then crushed Connor Jones 7-1, before edging out Josh Kane 7-5.
It was all over for him in the last-eight though, as he lost a brilliant game 7-6 to Dan Eaton-Lees.
Eaton-Lees had knocked Melling out of event three with a 7-3 win, after the Keighley veteran had beaten Dave Fernandez 7-3 in his is opener.
Melling kicked off event four by squeezing out Karl O'Donoghue 7-6 before losing by the same scoreline to aforementioned Northern Irishman Clarke.
Dad had reached the Ultimate Pool Masters quarter-finals earlier in the week, but was not at his best in Blackpool.
He lost 7-5 to Jez Graham in the last-64 of event three, before getting thumped by that man Clarke in his event four opener.
