Keighley native Arfan Dad into last eight of Ultimate Pool Masters

The Keighley native was one of three players from the Bradford District, Chris Melling and Karl Boyes being the others, to make it to the last-32 stage.

Rather than being a straight knockout, the final 32 have been split into eight groups of four, with the winners of each one going through the quarters in May.

Melling and Boyes are yet to play in their last-32 groups, but Dad’s was the third of eight, as he, Dom Cooney, David McNamara and Aaron Davies looked to join John Roe and Jake-Dylan Newlove in the quarter-finals.

Cooney crushed McNamara 8-2 in the opening game to book his spot in the night’s final, but it was a much tighter affair between Dad and Davies, the former edging the encounter 6-5.

The crucial moment between Dad and Cooney in the group final came with the latter 4-2 down.

He was in charge of frame seven, and looked to have played an excellent safety shot, but somehow managed to find the tiniest gap possible for the cueball to drop into the pocket.

Dad took advantage of the foul to move 5-2 in front, before romping to the next three frames too.

That meant he claimed an 8-2 victory, booking his place in the last-eight in style.
