BRADFORD Deaf Centre B have been crowned league champions of the Bradford & District Sunday School Billiards League after a thrilling final day of the season went right down to the wire.
Going into the final round of fixtures, four of the eight teams had a realistic chance of becoming champions.
Remarkably, that was still the case when the final pairings in each match came to the table.
Princeville D were the outsiders and they did all they could with a 5-0 win against bottom of the table Bradford Deaf Centre A, but they were dependent on other results going their way.
Leaders Bradford Deaf Centre B needed two points on the night to see off the challenge of Princeville D, but also to finish ahead of their opponents Princeville B.
They just did it, winning the last game by 12 points, although Princeville B still won the match 3-2.
Bradford Deaf Centre B were then left sweating on the result from Pudsey where they knew that Pudsey B, who needed four points to top them, had already got three going into the last game.
Pudsey B just failed to do finish the job, with last man Dave Howarth going down 183-173 to Princeville A's Edward Lawson.
It all meant Bradford Deaf Centre B were champions with 36.5 points, half a point above Pudsey B, with Princeville D third on 35.5.
Princeville B, who finished only two points behind the champions, ended up in fourth.
The only irrelevant game of the night saw Princeville C beat Pudsey A 4-1, meaning the former finished third-bottom, and the latter second-bottom.
