LOWLY Bradford (Park Avenue) secured a crucial National League North point in Worcestershire on Saturday after drawing 1-1 against Kidderminster Harriers.

The deadlock was broken late in the first half, as Avenue's Jordan Preston continued his impressive form by placing a lovely effort calmly past Tom Palmer to give his side the lead.

Kidderminster improved after the break and eventually brought the scores level.

Joe McGlynn’s strike rebounded into the path of Amari Morgan-Smith and the forward attempted an acrobatic overhead kick which beat George Sykes-Kenworthy in the Avenue goal.

There was no late drama in this foggy affair as the points were evenly split between two well-matched sides.

The first chance of the game fell to the hosts courtesy of a long-range effort from former Bradford City defender Nathaniel Knight-Percival, which pushed past the post by his former team-mate at Valley Parade, Sykes-Kenworthy.

Minutes later, Avenue scored through Preston, with the Spennymoor Town loanee collecting the ball inside the 18-yard box and slotting the chance beyond Palmer to give Mark Bower’s side the lead.

Moments before the half-time interval, the visitors nearly doubled their lead from Will Longbottom’s dangerous free-kick, which was eventually deflected out for a corner.

Just after the break, the hosts nearly drew level from a long-range attempt.

Shane Byrne’s strike looked destined for the top corner but narrowly went over the bar.

Kidderminster kept pushing for an equaliser and came close once again.

Tom Owen-Evans’ through-ball was weighted perfectly for the advancing run of Ashley Hemmings, but Sykes-Kenworthy was on hand to make a diving save to deny him.

Russell Penn’s side eventually got their equaliser, which came about in spectacular fashion.

McGlynn’s ambitious attempt went into the path of Morgan-Smith, whose impressive overhead kick to score stunned both sets of players.

Both sides were unable to create any clear chances in the final 15 minutes, which meant the points were split between the two National League North sides.

The draw means Avenue move up to 17th in the table, three points clear of the drop zone, though they have now played more games than all seven of the sides below them.

Kidderminster dropped to 15th after the result, and remain five points in front of Bradford.

Avenue are next in action against seventh-placed Chorley at Horsfall this Saturday.
