BRADFORD boxer Tasif Khan says that he's "honoured," after receiving two nominations for the 2023 Bradford Sports Awards on March 9.

The star studded evening features inspiring stories, sporting highlights over the past year and awards from four different categories. Hosted by BBC's Tanya Arnold, Bradford will be celebrating the sporting achievements of athletes, of all levels, coaches, teams, administrators and volunteers.

Khan himself has earned recognition in both the 'sportsman senior achievers' and the 'outstanding contribution (coach)' awards ahead of the seventh rendition of the celebratory event. This follows a fantastic year for Khan both in and out the ring.

He added more victories to his professional boxing record in 2022, winning all three of his bouts across the year, while he also contributed magnificently to the local community with his work at the 'Tasif Khan Boxing Academy'.

Speaking to the T&A about both of his nominations, Khan said: "Funnily enough, I'd heard a few rumours going around about me being nominated for the awards, but I only found out about them properly on Wednesday and it was very nice to hear.

"I've been extremely busy the past few months with the preparation for the fight I had in December, so nothing else had really crossed my mind. But now the nominations are out, it's very humbling and it's especially nice to be recognised for good work in your home town."

For the 'sportsman senior achievers' award, Khan will be up against some strong competition if he wants to win it, with other nominations going to cricketers Adil Rashid and Harry Brook, fellow boxer Harris Akbar, trails rider Jack Carthy and darts superstar Joe Cullen.

Discussing his chances of winning, Khan said: "It's a massive achievement for myself to just be part of the award ceremony and I'm proud that I'm in and amongst the nominations. If I win it, I win it but I'm just privileged to be here anyway. A few of the nominations in that list are good friends of mine like Adil Rashid. Within their respective sports, they're doing extremely well, so full respect to them and I wish them all the best."

Khan added: "I'm a flag-bearer for Bradford, so I love seeing any kind of success coming out of the city. I want to keep doing the region proud along with the rest of the names on this list. All I'm glad to see is that Bradford is getting the recognition it deserves in sport. It's always been recognised in different aspects of life, but now the city is deservedly getting recognised for having great athletes. It's lovely to see."

Khan's second nomination was for his brilliant coaching work at the Tasif Khan Community Boxing Academy - an Academy established in 2015 to carry on Khan's good work in engaging young people and helping them to aspire high.

Reflecting on his nomination, the Bradford boxer said: "My professional boxing career, once all the preparation with my team has been done, it's more of a one man thing, me against the opponent inside the ring. However, with my coaching I'm extremely lucky and grateful to have a brilliant team around me. We've got a brilliant team, we all bounce off each other and I wouldn't have been nominated for this award without them. So, full credit goes to them as well."

Khan is potentially looking to get back in the ring as early as March, however fight details will be announced in due course.
