THACKLEY missed out on the chance to ease their relegation fears on Tuesday night, as their clash at Dennyfield against Penistone Church was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

The Bradford side are nine points clear of the drop in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division, but were left reeling after losing 2-1 to lowly Goole AFC last weekend, and could do with a couple more wins soon to allow them to breathe a little more easily.

But like all of the NCEL games scheduled on Tuesday, the Dennyboys fell victim to a washout.

That home game against Penistone has now been pencilled in for Tuesday, January 31.

The same fate therefore befell their Bradford rivals Albion Sports.

Albion are also in danger of going down, just seven points clear of the drop, but they were actually due to be in cup action, with an NCEL League Cup third round clash at Shirebrook Town.

That knockout tie has now been rearranged for Tuesday, January 24.

There were some midweek games though, with the highlight seeing in-form Guiseley record a 2-0 victory at Whitby Town in the Northern Premier League Premier Division.

The Lions were looking in genuine danger of being relegated for a second successive season, but a fine run over the last few games means those worries are now surely a distant memory.

Andy Kellett gave Paul Phillips' side the perfect start at Whitby, putting the visitors in front after only two minutes.

Leigh Whelan netted Guiseley's second just before the break, and the hosts were unable to find a response in the second half.

The Lions have now won four of their last five games, and all of a sudden, they find themselves just four points off the play-offs.

Farsley Celtic desperately need to go on a run like Guiseley, having only won once in their last eight National League North games.

They remain marooned in the four-team relegation zone after losing 2-0 at Hereford in midweek due to Miles Storey's quickfire double.

They are now five points off safety now after fellow strugglers Buxton managed an impressive 2-2 draw against Chorley on Tuesday night.
