ON Saturday, February 4, The Lion Gym and Boxing Club, a registered charity in Greengates, will be hosting two Yorkshire Challenge Belt Championship bouts at The Bradford Hotel.

The highly-regarded Yorkshire Challenge Belt will feature one of the Bradford-based Lion Gym's finest boxers in 23-year-old Jamie Broom.

The young talent has an impressive amateur boxing record of seven wins and one, arguably controversial, loss on his record.

The Yorkshire Challenge Belt is a prestigious amateur boxing title, and when won, it means the holder is the best in Yorkshire at his particular weight category.

It will be the first time a Lion Gym boxer has ever challenged for such a title, after eight years of the amateur boxing club and gym facility being in existence, and head coach Khalil Alam is really excited about taking on the challenge and the event itself.

He said: "We as a club and Jamie as a boxer have a very tough challenge facing us against an opponent who is more experienced than Jamie.

"But knowing all of my competitive boxers (who will be boxing on the show) they are lions in their nature and perform even better when the odds of winning are against them.

"This is the first Yorkshire title challenge for team Lion Gym and we are confident we can display a winning performance.

"However whatever the outcome for the two separate Yorkshire belt championships and 16 amateur bouts, the event itself will be a winner for Bradford and everyone involved."

The event is sponsored by Regal Bakery, Square Apple Takeaway, Newlands Community Transport and Carr & Co Solicitors Huddersfield.
