BRADFORD'S Tawheed Ahmed is loving life at his new club Nostell Miners Welfare in the NCEL.

The young and tricky winger, formerly of Silsden, made the move to the Wakefield club in the summer, however, gametime was limited for the youngster and he mainly found minutes from the bench.

Nevertheless, Ahmed has now found his feet and is flourishing under the guidance of Nostell manager Ian Walker, scoring four goals in as many games in December alone.

Discussing his recent form, Ahmed said: “I feel like I’m settling in well now and I’m confident in being one of the main forward players whether it be from the bench or the starting line-up. Recently, I’ve properly felt part of the team and I feel like my qualities are helping to improve the team in many ways.

“Me and the other forwards are all very quick, so it definitely suits the way in which we want to play, which is based around fast and expansive football. Since my first goal in September when I was struggling to get into the team on a more frequent basis, I believe the manager has seen what I can offer and from that he has given me more opportunities. I’ve got to say, Ian has managed me superbly and nurtured me into the team, and because of that I’m feeling really confident about my game at the minute.”

Ahmed has hit seven goals since his maiden strike for Nostell in September, and being in the current form he is in, the speedster is eager to hit double digits in all competitions.

He said: “That’s my first aim now, to reach double figures for the season. I’d be over the moon to achieve that because we are playing in a very tough and competitive league at a semi-professional level. The manager has instilled a lot of confidence into me and I’m continuing to learn new aspects of the game in every fixture I play in, so I know I can continue to improve and raise my game.

“As a forward player you always want to contribute in the attacking third and that’s what I’m starting to do on a regular basis now, so I feel like I can only improve from this point. Adding more goals to my tally would prove that point, and that’s what I want. I now take on board the little details, for example, the timing of my runs, positioning in the box and when to take a shot. This will only help me going forward.”

Ahmed’s side, Nostell, are currently 14th in the NCEL Division One table and are without a win in four league fixtures, however, the winger believes it won’t be long before the team find their groove.

He said: “We are a relatively young side and are currently in the process of forming bonds and building chemistry. Although we haven’t got the victories in recent weeks, the performances have been encouraging and the style of football we want to play is becoming evident as the weeks go by. I believe that, if we can get a few results together, then we can still make a push for the playoffs because there is a long way to go.”
