YORKSHIRE seamer Matthew Fisher will begin his push for an England Test recall with the Lions tour of Sri Lanka, which starts later this month.

He made his debut last March against the West Indies in Barbados as a late replacement for the unwell Craig Overton, taking the wicket of opener John Campbell in his first over of Test cricket.

He finished the game with figures of 1-71 across both innings, and looked set to push for a place in the bowling attack over the summer.

But a stress fracture in his back, which he suffered during Yorkshire's County Championship game against Gloucestershire in April, kept him on the sidelines for several months.

With England currently on a hot streak under Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum's attacking brand of Test cricket, Fisher has slipped down the pecking order somewhat.

But he impressed on his return to County Championship action for Yorkshire in September, with match figures of 6-85 against Gloucestershire, and this Lions call-up shows he is still in England's thoughts.

He is one of only four players selected for the Sri Lanka tour in both the Test and ODI squads.
