Marcus Rashford took to Instagram to share a picture of himself with one of his ‘football idols growing up’ David Beckham earlier this week and since England’s defeat against France on Saturday evening, the striker has received racist comments on his post.
While there are racist comments, the majority of comments were of support for Rashford.
The 25-year-old played briefly when he came off the bench in the quarter final match which saw England lose 2-1 to France on Saturday, December 10.
Marcus Rashford fans slam racist trolls on social media
Rashford's Instagram post was captioned, saying: “One of my football idols growing up @davidbeckham sorry the meet-up was brief as I had recovery but hopefully we get to link up again soon.”
Fans rushed to defend Rashford as racist comments were posted to the comment section under the picture of him meeting David Beckham.
One defended Rashford, saying: “how can u support a team and then racially abuse them? they played so well such a shame.”
A second wrote: “All report the racist comments.”
A third said: “Before anyone thinks about posting abuse, just remember that because of Rashford, starving children were able to get free school meals during the covid pandemic. A man of principle and legend both on and off the pitch.”
