THE Annual General Meeting of the Bradford & District Evening Cricket League will be held on Wednesday, December 7, 2022, at East Bierley Cricket Club, commencing at 7:30pm.

New teams are invited/required for the 2022 season to bring the number of competing clubs up to the ideal complement of 16 teams to enable the league to be divided into 2 divisions of 8 teams each.

The basic workings of the league are as follows:

• 14 games, played on Wednesday evenings (6:30pm start), between April to July

• 16/18 overs per innings depending on weather with a maximum of 4 overs per bowler

• Batsmen retire once they have reached 50 runs

• Other than that, it is normal cricket rules

The origins of the league were as an alternative to net practice, which is still one of the main benefits today.

Other clubs treat it as a social league for raising funds at home games while there are also some very nice team and individual league trophies to be won.

This including the chance to appear at the league’s iconic Finals Day, held on August Bank Holiday Monday each year, involving the top two teams in each division.

Any new clubs wishing to join the league for the 2023 season are asked to contact league secretary, Phil Poole Snr, either by phone (07778 138036) or by email (phil_poole2002@yahoo.co.uk) for details.

Anyone wanting to support/sponsor the league in the form of placing an advert in the handbook (cost is £30 for a full-page advert), are also asked to contact league secretary Phil Poole Snr.

Finally, the league are also looking to divide the duties of the secretary’s role and require a general secretary to oversee the administration of the league, as opposed to overseeing the cricket playing side of the league.

Again, anyone interested in fulfilling this role or requiring further details should contact the current secretary, Phil Poole Snr.
