SIR - With regard to Alan Bates' letter(T&A, November 18) 'Football should stay out of politics'.
He mentions poppies on football shirts. The poppy is not political but to remember and to raise money for the brave men and women and animals who have given the ultimate sacrifice or have been severely injured. Both Simon Weston and Ben Parkinson come to mind.
A lot of football clubs try to raise money for the British Legion. I think they donate to have the poppies printed on the shirts.
