MOHAMMED ‘The Superman’ Subhaan is gearing up for his second professional fight this weekend as he returns to Rotherham only two months after his career opening victory.
The 22 year-old professional boxer from Bradford, who recently made his debut with trainer Dominic Ingle in his corner, earned a points victory over Lee Connelly midway through September at the Magna Centre, Rotherham.
It was a spectacular first outing for the Bradford star, who impressed in front of a crowd of 400 people.
Subhaan returns to South Yorkshire on Saturday for a bout with the experienced Lithuanian fighter, Simas Volosinas, and he’s eager to make a statement.
Reflecting on a memorable past couple of months, Subhaan said: “First of all, I want to give a big shout out to my fans because they gave me fantastic support on my professional debut in September and they came out in numbers from Bradford. To get that first victory was amazing and it will last in my memory forever. Although I didn’t get the knock out win, it was all about getting a result in my first professional bout and I achieved that, so I’m very happy.
“It’s exciting knowing that I’m back out again on Saturday in Rotherham because me and my team have put a lot of work in to get to a great level in this training camp, and we are more than ready for the challenge.”
Subhaan added: “I’m looking to stay as active as possible; that’s why I’ve taken this fight on, only two months later. I love this sport and I’m always eager to get back into the ring, not only that, I want to show people what I can do at every opportunity.
“My opponent is very experienced and we are expecting a different kind of challenge to the one that Lee Connelly gave me, however, I’m very young, I’m active and I’ve got a lot of hunger behind me, so I’m very confident about getting the job done.”
Subhaan, who has an impressive amateur background ranking as England’s number one for many years, which included a Great British gold and silver medal, and an English National Title, is now training at the historic Ingle gym under the watchful eye of Dominic Ingle, son of the legendary Brendan Ingle.
Reflecting on his time at the Ingle Gym, Subhaan said: "Every day at the gym is an experience because whether it's the fighters or the coaches, there is loads of quality and history, so there are always stuff to pick up on. For example, I'm currently training alongside Kell Brook and he's able to share tips and his experience with me, which I'm very grateful for. That just shows the level of brilliance there is at the gym."
Subhaan claimed a points victory last time out against Lee Connolly but this time he is hoping to go one better.
He said: "This sport is about showing progress and I'd love to do that in my second professional bout. I came close to a knockout in the final round of the last fight, so this time I'd like to achieve that and claim a statement victory."
