BOTH our Women’s and Girls’ teams took part in a minute’s silence to commemorate Remembrance Sunday before their fixtures last weekend.

Burley Trojans had a close game in the West Riding County Third Division game at Wortley rec.

In a great game for the neutral, Troggs went 3–0 up through Naomi Myhill, Charlotte Keane and Jess Bretherick. On the half-hour mark, Wortley had pulled one back and then went 4–3 up with 15 minutes to go. Ten minutes later, Bethan Smith equalised. Then a penalty was missed, however with two minutes to go, Olivia Boardman put away the winner.

Sunday’s game against Farsley Junior Development marks a remarkable 500 games in charge for manager Tony Gill. The landmark will also be marked as a charity day, to benefit Breast Cancer Research UK and Ovarian Cancer Research, taking place at the rec and afterwards at the Cricket Club.

In County First, Ilkley Town were at Sherburn White Rose, Silsden travelled to Hepworth and Skipton Town hosted Farsley Junior Reserves.

Izzy Armstrong put Ilkley ahead with an early goal, but their previously-unbeaten opponents were level at the break.

The second half saw Neve Tennant re-take the lead before an unfortunate own-goal made it all-square with half an hour to go. However Armstrong and Millie Washington gave the Baht’atters a 4–2 victory.

Manager Claire Armstrong was really proud of all the players in what was a challenging game against a really strong opponent. “We had to change our style of play, compete and demonstrate resilience in order to get the result.”

Silsden had a slow start before creating a lot of excellent chances that they just couldn’t convert. But Hepworth United, previously without a win, took their opportunities to take the points with a 2–0 win.

Skipton continue to top the division, after an enjoyable 3–0 victory saw a brace from ex-Bradford City striker Ali Smith and an Alex Heyworth rocket.

Skipton Development had an entertaining game at Lower Hopton, but, despite lots of pressure they ended-up on the wrong side of a 3–2 score-line, with goals from Becca Brown and Shannon Wilson. However Skipton’s seconds are still on the same number of points as the two County Fourth leaders.

Bradford City’s u21s continued their fine form with a comprehensive 15–0 victory at Wakefield Owls, who showed attitude and spirit, a credit to the Women’s game. City’s goals came from Summer Paley (4), Crystal Boyce (4), Isma Ahmed (4), Millie Wainwright (2) and Arooba Khan.

Bradford United went down to an early goal from Leeds Hyde Park Seconds. However two goals from October’s player of the month Bouthayna Fakraoui and a further goal from Henna Shaheen secured a 3–2 win.

Bradford City’s u23s had a tough game in prospect, however they put in a fantastic performance in the FA National Reserve Division, against top-of-the-table Durham Cestria, to secure a 3–3 draw. City’s goals came from Hannah Markey, Kayla Williams and substitute Valeria Martin.

Bradford (Park Avenue) were at home to Barnsley Ladies in the Regional Northeast League.

A much-improved second half in last weekend’s game gave them confidence going into this match, despite the teams being at opposite ends of the Southern Division after Avenue’s recent disappointing results.

Barnsley were first out of the block after only a few seconds as a dispossessed back-pass ended up in the goal. Another Barnsley shot went sailing over the bar. However Bradford were soon level as skipper Jade Nelson sent a terrific strike from distance that was deflected, giving the goalkeeper no chance. There was good play from defender Emily McNulty, and Bradford had many chances throughout the game, but it was Barnsley who were ahead at the break, after a shot from the edge of the box.

On the hour mark, Millie West scored a well-deserved equaliser. Soon after, a Barnsley player rounded the keeper to get a shot in that Bradford defender Nic Chamberlain got a foot to, but was unable to prevent what turned out to be the winning goal.

An amazing all-round performance from Avenue puts them in good stead for their next game, a West Riding County Cup tie at Harrogate Railway.

In other second round games, City’s u21s are at home to County Premier side Brayton Belles and Silsden host Regional Northeast side Altofts. Skipton are playing in the competition for the very first time as their first team travel to Sherburn, Ilkley play Yorkshire Amateur at Cookridge Lane and Athletico are at Golcar.
