IT'S second time lucky for young Bradford boxer Mohammed Subhaan Ahmed as he finally prepares to make his professional debut in Rotherham today.

He was scheduled to make his pro debut at the Magna Centre in Rotherham in May, but unfortunately his bout was cancelled.

Ahmed, 21, had a successful time as an amateur, where he was at one point ranked as England's number one, as well as winning a Great Britain gold medal, and English and Yorkshire titles.

He is now working with the best, at the world famous Ingle Gym in Sheffield, and he'll be looking to make a statement against Derbyshire's super lightweight boxer, Lee Connelly, on Saturday in Rotherham, where he'll be fighting on the undercard of Darren Tetley versus Dom Hunt.

Looking ahead to his professional debut, Subhaan Ahmed said: "I've been waiting for this day to come for a long time and now it's here I'm really excited. Obviously, the last one got cancelled but ever since then I've only been looking forwards.

"I'm fully confident about taking the step up to professional boxing and I feel I'm ready for the challenge; I've been mixing with the professionals down at the Ingle Gym and I feel I'm more than ready to show everyone what I've got."

Subhaan Ahmed added: "The experience I get at the Ingle Gym is priceless and it can't be bought. I've got some of the best minds, skills and knowledge to help me get through each of my training sessions. They push me all the way and they feed that confidence into me, which is why I'm so ready to make the next step in my career."

Ahmed had a very successful amateur career and he'll be hoping to take his knowledge and experience into the professional game, however, he's expecting a number of differences to be present in taking the step up.

He said: "I expect the guys I'm coming up against to be a lot more durable, but at the same time I expect my power to be a lot more visible because I'll be wearing smaller gloves and we won't be wearing headguards.

"On that front, I'm really excited about showing off my power and skillset, and because I've been working with some great coaches, I know where and when to pick my shots."

Discussing his opponent and a potential outcome to the fight, Ahmed said: "I'm expecting Lee to be very strong so I'll need to put it on him a bit to make sure he respects my power. I'd like to be on the front foot throughout the fight but I'll need to be intelligent about it, rather than going in there and unloading poorly. So, it'll be strategic but I'll certainly be taking it to him."

Ahmed added: "First of all, I'd like me and my opponent to get home safely but as far as a win goes, I hope it comes in great fashion- a victory that would make peoples' heads turn. I want people to be talking about me after the fight and if they are, then it shows I've impressed on the big stage."
