AT a crucial point in the series, Toby Martyn (TRRS) regained the ACU British Trials Championship lead, after convincingly winning the penultimate round at Rock & Hop at Summerbridge last Sunday.

His loss of just 35 marks over the three lap, 12 section course put him 23 marks in front of his main title contender, Jack Peace (Sherco), so the Cornishman heads to the final round in October two points ahead.

Although riding at the head of the class, Martyn was the only rider not to incur any time penalties during the day. Billy Green (Scorpa) made a return to the podium in third place.

Despite losing two time penalties, Iwan Roberts (TRRS) edged out the narrowest of victories in the Trial 2 class over his main rival Harry Hemingway (Beta), who staged a last lap comeback after a poor first tour by his standards.

Harry Turner (Scorpa) once again made the lower step of the podium, but adrift of the leading duo.

George Hemingway (Beta) kept his losses to single figures on each lap to take victory in the Trial 125 class, but was kept on his toes by Jamie Galloway (TRRS) until the very final section, while Alfie Lampkin (Vertigo) claimed yet another third place.

By taking the win and the best lap bonus point, Dan Thorpe (Gas Gas) put one hand on the Trial Expert crown, taking the win from Brad Bullock (Beta), who made a return to form in second and edged Thorpe's main championship rival, Emma Bristow (Sherco) into third.

The final round of the series takes place at Llanfyllin on October 2.

Meanwhile, the Wetherby and District Motor Club staged their fourth club championship trial, at Appletreewick Pastures last Saturday.

Just 37 competitors dropped in on Appletreewick village for the trial, as the three classes rode a compact nine-section course.

Just about half of the entrants were over 40 years old.

Glasshouses electrician Danny Gamble switched on the power to ride the course cleanly on his new TRS machine to beat top Inter Anthony Ayrton, as well as Danny Cockshott.

Robert Hardisty again won the green course class, leaving his riding mate Phillip Hammond to collect another second place as top over-40 contender.

Stewart Molloy also cleanly rode the easy course, beating Oliver Winstanley and John Henfrey. Wetherby will run again on Sunday, August 7 at Bayliss Gap Farm, Bewerley.

Watch out for the weather forecast as Bayliss is critical if wet. The dense woods contain many footpaths that are under National Parks jurisdiction.
