JOE Copperwaite broke the course record at Branshaw Golf Club on Saturday, June 4.
Playing in the Peter Judson Trophy in blustery conditions, the 32-year-old recorded a gross score of 63, six under par, with birdies at holes one, five, seven, 10, 14 and 16, along with 12 pars.
The previous course record was set by club member David Eeles, almost 32 years ago when Copperwaite was only six weeks old.
Copperwaite, a talented sportsman who also excels at both rugby codes and cricket, has been a playing member at Branshaw since starting as a junior at the age of 10.
Club captain Bob Laughlin said: “Joe is one of a number of talented young golfers at Branshaw and Saturday’s round was a fantastic achievement considering the conditions.
“I am really pleased for him, particularly as he is homegrown talent.”
Laughlin added: “The club are investing heavily in the club and on the course.
“The new irrigation system, a new practice putting green, and increased green staffing have enabled the condition of the course to improve significantly, particularly the greens.
“These improvements will also benefit the better players to improve their scoring.
“Membership at the club continues to grow, but there are vacancies for new members at very competitive rates.”
